OMRAB was chosen by Ministry of Municipalities and Public Work, Iraq government to execute the design, supply, and manufacturing of AL-SHATRA sewerage project (Turn-key) of maximum input capacity of 64,000m3/d in average condition. th
Al-Shatra is a town in the Thi Qar Governorate, Iraq, located on the Gharraf Canal at the intersection with Highway 7. It is 22.35 km west of the ancient city of Lagash. Republic of IRAQ, Ministry of Municipalities and Public Work, intended to execute the design, supply, and manufacturing of AL-SHATRA sewerage project (Turn-key) of maximum input capacity of 64,000m3/d in average condition.
The first stage of the treatment plant will be implemented utilizing approximately half of the design age with main and secondary trunk lines and lifting stations with (storm and sanitary) networks. This design age begins from the activation date of the waste water treatment plant up to 25 years.
The project includes a complete set of designs for the treatment plant with capability of nutrient and COD removal, lifting stations as well as Sanitary, and Storm Water Sewer Systems. Supplying the materials ,equipment and machines for implementing the first stage of the project including first stage of treatment plant which approximately utilizes up to the half of design age and first stage of (Sanitary, and Storm Water) Sewer Systems and lifting stations with implementing main and secondary trunk lines is a part of OMRAB's scope of work.
Treatment plant consists of the following sections:
Physical treatment (Screening unit and grit chamber),
Anaerobic selector and combined MBR method.
Disinfection unit using chlorine gas,
Sludge treatment (Gravity thickener and drying bed) and
RAS and WAS pump station.
Client's requirement for some specific units such as drying bed, limited space for the project, soil condition and necessity to have deep structures makes the design of WWTP challenging and outstanding.
The treatment process has been designed base on a conventional treatment system includes intake pump station unit, pre sedimentation, flash mixing unit, clariflocculator, gravity sand filter recovery, gas chlorination, chemical and control system.
Due to Iraq Situation from 2015 ( ISIS attack) and client inability for the project payments, this project was suspended from 2015 to 2020, ( beginning of Coronavirus Pandemic).
Note: The period of project was 980 calendar days but it was extended because of budget object from the employer side considering ISIS war in Iraq.!
